Freezing Fat, Cryoskin, and PAH.

Coolsculpting, which was once a billion dollar business has recently taken a huge hit due to recent reports of Paradoxical Adipose Hyperplasia (PAH) in a small percentage of clients. At Modrn, we wanted to take a moment to talk about our fat freezing technology Cryoskin and how it differs as a treatment from Coolsculpting.

According to Artemis Distribution, Cryoskin "has been administered hundreds of thousands of times and without a single report of PAH or any other debilitating effects.”

About Cryoskin

Cryoskin is a non-invasive slimming technology, which since its introduction to the US market in 2017, and has been administered hundreds of thousands of times without a single report of PAH or any other debilitating effects. Cryoskin is applied using a manual massage technique in which the technician creates folds in the skin to cool the subcutaneous fat cells, and there is no mechanized vacuum.

It is suspected that since the treatment is administered through a manual manipulation technique versus a vacuum technique (where the fat is sucked into a device and then frozen) that it has most likely eliminated the potential for PAH and the shelving effects that it creates.

The Cryoskin slimming treatment utilizes cold freezing technology, but protects the skin with a special gel made specifically for the treatment. Our treatment has also been described as pain-free compared to the vacuum technology, which places the fat under extreme temperatures for nearly an hour and then administers a massage to breaking up the frozen fat. Having personally done this treatment, the massage post Coolsculpting is incredibly painful, but only lasts for about 30-60 seconds.

Post your Cryoskin fat freezing treatment, heat is applied for 2 minutes to relax the body and a mini manual lymphatic massage is done on the body.

*Is PAH common? * The reported rate of incidence is 0.0051% of the 1.5 million CoolSculpting procedures performed worldwide.

This is not a big number, but there is still a chance that it could happen to you. While most practices offering Coolsculpting will note its risks in the paperwork you sign, it’s important to make sure you know before you go. The only way to correct this if it happens to you is through surgery.

What’s The Takeaway?

I’ve personally done both Coolsculpting and Cryoskin. With Coolsculpting I was one of the lucky people that did not have any adverse side effects. Before my treatment I was told about the potential of two different situations that could effect me 1) is called “shark bites” which can result in a divot in the skin where the suction is applied and fat frozen, and 2) was the potential for PAH.

With the knowledge provide, I made the decision to move forward with the treatment, and was relatively pleased with the results after 3 months!

However, it’s important to make sure you get all the information YOU need to make your own choices. Do your research beforehand, go in with questions, and never allow a business to rush you into a decision if you are not ready.

With Cryoskin our goal is to share a few difference between the two treatments and share with you what we have learned in order to help you make your own decisions if you are considering fat freezing.

Lastly, please note that Modrn Sanctuary can also utilize the Cryoskin device to conduct Toning treatments, which do not freeze fat, but rather utilize cold technology to induce microcirculation to an area. This will not cause apoptosis, which is the death of fat cells, but will help with smoothing the skin and smoothing the appearance of cellulite. In is also utilized during the Cryoskin facial, which lifts and tightens the skin!
